Inner Turmoil

Ever feel like this inside? I do - often. The photo is, of course, the Pacific: peaceful. Doesn't feel that way, inside or outside. But wait. Stop for a few moments and breath with it. In. Out. In. Out. For a while. It's not that it stops churning - it keeps moving constantly. But by simply allowing it to be for a while, the inner signals that say "danger" and "what will I do about it" or "this is very uncomfortable" begin to subside, and the energy is seen and felt for what it is. Simply energy. Lots and lots of energy.
Try it (the inside one, I mean - we all have it). If you feel to, let me know what happened.

  1. Today if I didn't get to the ocean, I was able to reach a wonderful little park at the peak of Pacific Heights to ponder on the winds the tides and the distances, and to pause a bit to breathe as you suggest above, if I was not at the ocean's edge. You can feel the vastness of it and it's power even inland, it is such a force, if hearing the surf would require a little journey.

The summer pattern here in San Francisco makes a good metaphor too for clearing the mind of obstacles, often starting gray as it did today, and then letting the sun bring forth wind and breaking the fog into clouds with haste, where what started as a blanket of gray, quickly opens to blue, and lets the sun give warmth to the ground and the trees after a bit of a clammy start.

By noon the air was warm and spicy in spots. It is rejuvenating to get out to watch the show. There are benches to sit on.

It was a morning to hold your hat; no heat wave like back east. The air is filled with the smell of jasmine lately, and other flowers like roses and pittosporums which are equally pungent. I found a bush of star jasmine near a monkey puzzle tree close to the little park, and buried my face in it for a few moments.

To get to the Pacific for the peaceful roar of the surf? Maybe in a few days. For now I feel friends, here there and everywhere, especially here. Time to relax. I'll be back at work soon enough.

Thanks for the wise words and the lovely photo.
